Funen is really ideal for families who love being outdoors. The island is surrounded by sea, so a beach is never far away. After an active day, jump right into the fresh water, or enjoy the view with your feet in the sand. Do you have bicycles with you? Perfect! Funen has safe, well-maintained bike paths that take you past rolling hills, small islands and cosy villages. The 220-kilometre-long Østersøruten is especially recommended. And if you feel like some extra adventure, hop on a boat for a day of island hopping in the South Funen island kingdom.

A visit to Odense Zoo really shouldn't be missed. This zoo has been voted the best in Europe several times - and for good reason. The H.C. Andersen Museum is also a treat, especially if you relive the stories of this famous writer together with your children. In Den Fynske Landsby, they walk around in costumes as if time had stood still. And then there are the Jernbanemuseum, the Maritime Museum, as well as several art museums that are also surprisingly fun for children. Every family member will find something to get excited about here.

Odense is the green heart of Funen. With fine city parks, quaint streets and cosy cafes, this is the ideal place to take a break. Follow the trail of H.C. Andersen through the town, take a boat ride on the river or wander past antique stores and small boutiques. And for those travelling with adolescents: even they will find their niche here, for example, in the popular board game cafe or at the street food market. The villages around Odense are also worth a visit, each with its own charm and local delicacies.
